Coaching Exit Notes

Because I just can’t help myself

--

Here are the exit notes I passed along to the senior leadership team about my time as an Instructional Coach. Names redacted.

Hi BIG CHEESES!

Hope all is well with each of you here in the last week of the year. I thought there might be some use in passing along a few exit notes as I move out of the PLC Coach Role. Take them or leave them, of course.

1. One thing that I truly appreciate that LINE MANAGER developed this past semester was a critical friend circle with the Science PLC Coaches wherein we listened to each other’s recordings of coaching conversations and offered feedback. I did something similar with EXECUTIVE COACH starting last year because I felt it was really necessary for advancing my coaching. More than any other element of our program, I think that this kind of nuts-and-bolts reflection on the actual work is the missing piece that would really move things forward. It’s also soft-accountability for coaches, and models the same kind of feedback cycles we expect with our teacher partners. LINE MANAGER developed a really great structure (completely unsurprising, given how great LINE MANAGER is 😃).

2. I think it could be useful for coaches to have a “coaching helpline” type of structure where they can get quick support as they might need…
